Week Ten College Football Resume Rankings

Every time I have thought that we had a light slate coming up in college football, the sport has made me look like a fool. This has been one of the craziest seasons I have ever witnessed, and the wackiness continued in week nine.

There weren't as many upsets in the top ten as we've seen in recent weeks, but there were still a lot of important games across the sport that had serious playoff implications. Here's how week nine impacted our resume rankings for every team in college football.

Explaining the Rankings

Miami stays at number one in my rankings after narrowly escaping North Carolina this week. At this point, the Hurricanes clearly have the best resume of any team in the nation. They are 1st in SOR and 3rd in FPI. This is a really good team, and their resume score in my database is significantly better than any other team in the sport.

Indiana at No. 2 may seem crazy if you watched them struggle against Minnesota this week or if you've watched them play poorly on offense for a couple of weeks now. Keep in mind, my rankings are based on SOR and FPI, and Indiana is 4th in SOR and 8th in FPI. They've got a good body of work right now. They continue to win games, and they've had some solid wins this year against teams like Nebraska and Northwestern, which FPI is high on. That is why they are at No. 2, but if they have a loss at some point, they're going to fall in my rankings. They still have to handle their business, but this is why they are still this high in my rankings.

Georgia had a huge win coming off of a bye this week, as they beat Florida, who is 13th in FPI right now. That was a massive win for Georgia. They looked incredible, and with that win, the Bulldogs are now 6th in SOR and 4th in FPI. They were No. 8 in my rankings last week after losing to Auburn. Now they move back up to No. 3 in my rankings. With this win, the Bulldogs look like they can potentially get back to that No. 1 spot at some point.

Utah comes in at No. 4 in my rankings. They've been climbing the last couple of weeks because they're starting to play great football. With a dominant win vs. Cincinnati this week, they are now 5th in SOR and 10th in FPI, and they've got a solid body of work. They don't have a true signature win to give them an elite raw resume. However, they just dominated Cincinnati, they beat Houston on October 24, and they've got some solid wins against underrated teams like Iowa State and Kansas. This is a good team that's only getting better at the right time. They play BYU and Arizona the next two weeks, and those are going to be huge matchups for the Utes.

Ole Miss looked awesome in Week 9, beating Auburn by 30 points. It was a great performance from the Rebels. With that win, they jumped up three spots in my rankings to No. 6 because they are 7th in SOR and 9th in FPI. This is a big deal for my rankings because Kentucky is at No. 5, and now Ole Miss is at No. 6. If my rankings were used to determine the actual rankings, Ole Miss would have a chance to get into the SEC championship game if Kentucky slips up and loses a game it shouldn't. Ole Miss is playing at a high level, and they're one of the hottest teams in the sport.

Ohio State had a shocking loss to USC this week. It was brutal, as they got absolutely dominated by a USC team that was playing so poorly recently that people started wondering if their head coach, Lincoln Riley, would be fired after the season. With that loss, the Buckeyes are now 9th in SOR and 2nd in FPI. They're still really talented, but they have two losses. They've lost two games they probably shouldn't have, against Texas and USC. Now they are No. 8 in my rankings.

Ohio State is still in a good spot to make the playoff. It's not like their playoff chances are in the toilet. They're still more than likely going to make the playoff (ESPN gives them a 74.2% chance to make the playoff), but their margin for error is very slim now. If they lose another game, their playoff hopes will be in doubt, but for now, they're still in my top 10. Things are looking a little scary for the Buckeyes, though.

Speaking of USC, they had a massive win this week against Ohio State. I don't know if anybody expected that to happen considering the Trojans have been playing poorly recently. Wisconsin just whooped their ass a week ago, and now they have beaten one of the more talented teams in the nation. With this win, they have truly saved their season, as they are 14th in SOR and 15th in FPI. This team is still alive for the playoff somehow. It's miraculous that it's come to this point, but if USC wins out, they're going to be in the College Football Playoff.

Missouri jumped six spots in my rankings, moving from No. 25 to No. 19. To be honest, this jump surprised me, but they just beat Arkansas by 24 points, and the Razorbacks are an above-average team by FPI. A few teams ahead of Missouri fell in my rankings, which also played a role in their jump. Now, the Tigers are 20th in SOR and 19th in FPI. They've been rising in my rankings recently. They're playing solid football, and that is why they are in my top 20 after being No. 25 a week ago.

Iowa returns to my top 25 as they are No. 22 after being No. 30 last week. This comes after the Hawkeyes beat Wisconsin 30-0, and they looked absolutely dominant in that game. Trying to understand this football team is impossible. The week before, they lost to Minnesota 13-10. They beat Michigan by 1 point earlier in the season. They went up against Ohio State and lost 31-14. This team is wildly inconsistent, but now they're back in my top 25. Iowa is currently 23rd in SOR and 21st in FPI, and that win against Wisconsin is huge because the Badgers are 39th in FPI. The Badgers are a very solid football team, so a 30-point win shows that Iowa can be a dominant team when they put everything together on both sides of the ball.

It's time to pour one out for my Northwestern Wildcats. I was rooting for them this season, but unfortunately they lost to Oregon this week. This was a brutal loss, as they held a lead at one point. They played well offensively, but the defense simply wasn't good enough. I will say, Northwestern is still in my top 25. They're at No. 23 now, and this is still a very good football team. Northwestern is 24th in SOR and 24th in FPI. They definitely deserve a top-25 ranking despite another loss.

Speaking of Oregon, after a big win against Northwestern, the Ducks are now at No. 24 in my rankings. They jumped up to 28th in SOR and 12th in FPI this week, and because of this, Oregon is a team that deserves to jump back into the top 25. I expect that to happen in this week's AP poll.

When South Carolina lost three games in a row a few weeks ago, I thought they were dead. I thought Shane Beamer was destined to get fired, and now they look like one of the hottest teams in college football. They just beat Oklahoma, and I know Oklahoma has four losses, but the Sooners are 30th in FPI. They're a good team with a great defense.

This was an impressive performance for South Carolina, and now the Gamecocks are No. 25 in my rankings. They are 26th in SOR and 25th in FPI. They deserve to be a top-25 team, and I think the AP voters are going to put them in the top 25. I have been thoroughly impressed by what I've seen from South Carolina and their quarterback, LaNorris Sellers, as of late.

There were a handful of teams that fell out of my top 25 this week, including Wisconsin, Arizona, Oklahoma, and SMU. SMU had a huge drop, falling 14 spots from No. 20 to No. 34 after an awful loss against Syracuse.
