Week Seven College Football Resume Rankings

Week six was a fun one in college football as Indiana squeaked by Nebraska, Texas fell to Oklahoma, UCLA took down Oregon, Georgia outlasted Alabama, and so much more. There were a ton of important games and big upsets, meaning there will be a lot of movement in the rankings. Here are our resume rankings for each team heading into week seven.

Explaining the Rankings

Georgia jumps up to No. 1 after beating Alabama (5th in FPI), a win that gave them the best SOR in the nation. Georgia has the best resume, and they are the best team. Enough said.

Indiana had a big jump this week, going from No. 8 to No. 2 in my rankings after beating Nebraska. Why such a big jump? Indiana's resume is quite strong at this point, as they are 6-0 with wins against Northwestern (20th in FPI) and Nebraska (12th in FPI). Northwestern and Nebraska are easy to overlook because they haven't been great in recent years, but power rating systems love these teams, and they are big wins for the Hoosiers.

Alabama was No. 2 last week and fell just one spot after losing to Georgia, which makes sense to me. The Crimson Tide are still top five in both SOR and FPI. Their resume took a slight hit last night, but they are still an awesome team with a great resume.

Texas has been No. 1 in my rankings for a few weeks, but that changes now after the Longhorns were upset by Oklahoma. Texas hasn't looked truly elite this year, but their resume is still pretty good, and the loss to Oklahoma is easier to stomach when you consider that the Sooners are 16th in FPI. Texas still ranks 7th in SOR and 6th in FPI, enough for them to be 5th in my rankings.

Kentucky had a massive win against LSU (8th in FPI) last night, bumping their SOR from 5th to 4th, which saw them jump three spots in my rankings. I thought Kentucky might jump even further, but their resume was already very strong. Their power ratings aren't great, and that's the thing holding them back from being a top-five team in my rankings.

UCLA had a massive jump in my rankings this week, going from No. 23 to No. 8 after a win vs. Oregon (9th in FPI). UCLA has been underrated by the AP poll, but they have demanded everyone's respect now. The Bruins are 5-0 and rank 3rd in SOR. Their power rankings keep them outside the top five, but their resume is great.

Ohio State fell outside the top ten this week, and that is because their SOR fell from 11th last week to 15th this week, and their FPI fell from 1st last week to 3rd this week. If the Buckeyes handle their business in the Big Ten, they will climb towards the top of my rankings.

Wake Forest appears in the top fifteen this week, jumping from No. 19 to No. 13 after a win against NC State (66th in FPI). Teams ahead of the Demon Deacons lost, and this team continues to roll. They are now 12th in SOR and 22nd in FPI. This team is awesome.

USC jumped ten spots in my rankings to No. 17 this week after beating Penn State (26th in FPI), and the Trojans are such a weird team. They are quietly 6-1, with wins vs. Washington (57th in FPI) and Penn State, and a lone loss to Oregon (9th in FPI). However, it feels like they aren't playing as well as you'd expect. Still, they are top 20 in both SOR and FPI.

Houston jumped ten spots in my rankings as well, appearing at No. 18. The Cougars have an underrated resume as they are 5-1 with wins against Kansas State (44th in FPI), Oregon State (49th in FPI), and UCF (50th in FPI) while having a lone loss to Texas Tech (11th in FPI). This is why they rank 19th in SOR. In this house, we respect wins against top-50 power-rated teams.

Oklahoma had one of the biggest upset wins this week, taking down No. 1 Texas (6th in FPI) at home. This win took Oklahoma from No. 37 to No. 22 in my rankings as Oklahoma improved from 42nd in SOR to 22nd. The Sooners have an interesting resume. The two losses to Michigan (34th in FPI) and Georgia (2nd in FPI) hurt, but they have wins against Texas and New Mexico (38th in FPI) while being 16th in FPI themselves.

One team I thought would appear in my top 25 but didn't is Arizona. The Wildcats are 5-1 and just dominated Cincinnati (56th in FPI) and West Virginia (72nd in FPI) in back-to-back weeks. Their one loss is to BYU (14th in FPI). Unfortunately, they don't have enough quality wins, so they are just 27th in SOR. However, they are knocking on the door of being in my top 25 as they are at No. 27.

There were four teams that fell outside of my top 25 that I wanted to highlight real quick, including Florida, LSU, Oregon, and Pittsburgh. Florida lost a second straight game, falling to South Carolina. LSU was upset by Kentucky on the road. Oregon was shocked by UCLA. And Pittsburgh fell to North Carolina in its first game without its starting quarterback.
